Emilie Vanvolsem grew up in a remote region of Belgium and moved from village to village before making the move to the city of Brussels. It is in the city where she realized her passion for illustration. Her talent blossomed at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brussels where she graduated with first class honours and earned a scholarship from the Horlait Dapsens Foundation.
